Matthew C. Cocanougher is a partner in the Lexington, Kentucky office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A.  His practice focuses on long-term care defense, employment law, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and general liability.

Prior to joining QPWB, Mr. Cocanougher served as an assistant prosecutor of felony crimes with the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit in Springfield, Kentucky.  He also practiced as a litigation attorney with a personal injury law firm in Springfield, Kentucky, where he handled cases pertaining to family law, real estate, and commercial law.

Mr. Cocanougher received his Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2011 and Bachelor of Arts from Centre College, Danville, Kentucky in 2008, majoring in English.  In law school, Mr. Cocanougher served as Notes Editor of the Kentucky Journal of Equine, Agriculture & Natural Resources Law and received the “Best Comment” award from the publication. He was selected to serve on a risk management externship with UK Healthcare in Lexington, where he worked with risk management attorneys analyzing risk issues.  During law school, Mr. Cocanougher clerked with a Lexington law firm where he gained litigation experience working with attorneys practicing commercial law, insurance defense, and long-term care defense; and later joined the firm as an associate.

Mr. Cocanougher is licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Eastern District of Kentucky, Western District of Kentucky, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association.
