Matthew McElligott is a partner in the Fort Lauderdale office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A.  He focuses his practice in the areas of insurance and general liability defense, including personal injury, premises liability, product liability defense, wrongful death, automobile liability, negligent security, legal malpractice defense, insurance coverage disputes and bad faith litigation.

Prior to joining QPWB, Mr. McElligott was an assistant public defender with the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office, Eleventh Judicial Circuit, Felony Division and also served as chair of the Forensic Litigation Task Force.  Since 2009 he has served as lead counsel in 59 trials and as co-counsel in 36 trials.  He has managed a trial practice that ranges from misdemeanors to life felonies including DUI/DUI manslaughter, drug trafficking crimes, and homicides.  He also developed various litigation strategies to challenge forensic disciplines and lectured to local attorneys on the various forensic fields.

Mr. McElligott received his Juris Doctor, with honors, from the University of South Carolina School of Law in May 2009 and Bachelor of Science, with honors, from George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia in May 2003, graduating with a major in administration of justice.  While in law school, he received the book award for academic achievement in Evidence, and Professional Responsibility; he also was a member of the Southeastern Environmental Law Journal.

Mr. McElligott is licensed to practice law in Florida and is a member of The Florida Bar.

In 2014 Mr. McElligott was the recipient of the “40 Under 40 Outstanding Lawyers of Miami-Dade County” awarded for excellence in the legal field and contributions to the community.
