Derrick M. Kelly is a partner in the Miami office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A.  Mr. Kelly practices in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, construction law, aviation, and commercial litigation. In addition to his legal skills, Mr. Kelly has received specialized training in conducting and managing investigative interviews. He has extensive experience handling compliance issues and advising on strategic planning, risk management, and crisis response.

For over eight years, Mr. Kelly worked for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) where he received recognition for his dedication and distinguished service. As Sergeant of the School Resource Deputy Unit, Mr. Kelly taught interview techniques; supervised and trained deputies in conducting investigations, evidence gathering and crime scene management. He was assigned to the Family Crimes and Special Victims Section as a detective, where he conducted felony investigations involving domestic violence, child and elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.  Mr. Kelly first served on road patrol duty with the BSO and conducted various investigations of civil, criminal and non-criminal matters.

Prior to joining QPWB, Mr. Kelly was an associate with two law offices where he handled first and third party insurance defense claims, commercial litigation, contract disputes, insurance coverage matters, land use restrictions, employment law disputes, workers’ compensation claims, personal injury and property damage claims.

Mr. Kelly received his Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2009; a Master of Science in Management, Risk Management and Insurance from Florida State University in 2008; and a Bachelor of Arts from Union Institute and University in North Miami, Florida in 2005, with a major in criminal justice.  Mr. Kelly also received a Master Certificate in business management from Tulane University in 2006.

Mr. Kelly is licensed to practice law in Florida and is a member of The Florida Bar.
