Deborah L. Moskowitz is the managing partner of the firm’s Orlando Office and also practices from the firm’s Chicago office. She is also a Shareholder of the firm. Her areas of practice include the defense of health care professionals and entities including: doctors, nurses, physical therapists, advanced registered nurse practitioners, hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and CCRCs. She also handles general and complex civil litigation, including serving as local counsel for a number of internationally known quick service restaurants.
A graduate of the University of Miami, where she received a Bachelor of Science in 1994, Ms. Moskowitz earned her Juris Doctor in 1997 from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. This program is consistently ranked in the top 10 nationwide for its Trial Advocacy Program. Ms. Moskowitz received awards for her performances in various Client Counseling and Negotiation Competitions. She also was a member of Cumberland’s National Trial Team.
Ms. Moskowitz is admitted to practice in the states of Florida, Illinois, Tennessee and Texas. She is also licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Middle and Northern Districts of Florida and the Western District of Michigan. Ms. Moskowitz is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Health Lawyer’s Association, the Orange County Bar Association, the Central Florida Association of Women Lawyers and the Phi Delta Phi Honors Legal Fraternity.
Ms. Moskowitz first practiced law as an Assistant State Attorney for the 18th Judicial Circuit in Sanford, Florida, where she was recognized for her intensive work with Domestic Violence victims. Ms. Moskowitz tried a number of cases in both County and Circuit court while with the State. She later was in-house counsel for C.N.A. Insurance in Maitland, where she was responsible for handling significant risk claims for the company as well as overseeing various compliance issues for a third party administrator program for a Fortune Top 10 company. Ms. Moskowitz also practiced with Bobo, Spicer before joining the firm in 2001.
In July 2005, she was selected as one of “America’s Most Influential Women” by Sky Radio, in a segment dedicated to the recognition of outstanding women in law and in the corporate world. Ms. Moskowitz currently serves on the Cumberland School of Law Alumni Advisory Board; she is president ex officio of the University of Miami Alumni Association Orlando Chapter. Ms. Moskowitz was nominated for the “Women Who Mean Business” award by the Orlando Business Journal in 2011.
A frequent speaker at industry and legal conferences, Ms. Moskowitz has spoken at a number of seminars internally for clients as well as for organizations such as the Assisted Living Federation of America, Florida Health Care Association, Florida Association of Homes for the Aged, the Lorman Group and Professional Education Systems, Inc. Ms. Moskowitz co-authored “Risks & Rewards, Caring for Alzheimer’s Patients in the ALF Setting” prepared for Assisted Living Today, November/December 2003.
Ms. Moskowitz has been recently recognized by the Legal Aid Society of Central Florida and the Florida Supreme Court for her pro bono work. She is active in her community and currently volunteers for various charities and organizations for women and children in the Central Florida area including, Orange County Public Schools, and The Florida Law Related Education Association. Ms. Moskowitz serves as an advisory board member of the Orange County Teen Court and also serves as a Guardian Ad Litem.
