Personal Injury / Slip and Fall

ST. THOMAS - Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. (QPWB) attorneys William E. Crabill and Ryan C. Meade of Miami, Florida, recently scored a victory on behalf of the Marriott Frenchman’s Reef Resort in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.  The win was achieved in one of the very first personal injury cases tried on behalf of Marriott in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a jurisdiction with a reputation for extremely generous jury verdicts.

The plaintiffs, James and Melissa Johnson, who had been guests at Frenchman’s Reef, brought negligence and loss of consortium claims in the U.S. District Court in St. Thomas, as a result of Mr. Johnson’s September 15, 2007, slip and fall in a restroom located in the Resort’s spa.

The nine member jury reached its unanimous defense verdict in less than 30 minutes.

With the defense verdict, the plaintiffs are subject to various penalties under Virgin Islands’ law, and as such, Marriott is entitled to seek the recovery of costs and attorney’s fees that are anticipated to exceed $50,000.
