John M. Bush is a partner in the Louisville, Kentucky office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. For over 30 years, he has practiced in Kentucky with an almost exclusive focus on insurance defense litigation. Mr. Bush’s practice encompasses the areas of civil and commercial litigation, products liability, insurance defense and insurance fraud/(SIU) Special Investigations Unit.
Specifically, he has extensive experience in the areas of SIU/fraud claims and includes such matters as arson cases for structures and vehicles, homeowners’ and automobile theft cases, suspicious automobile liability claims, and PIP claims. His extensive litigation background also includes the defense of property and casualty insurance claims, including personal injury cases such as vehicular accidents, slip-and-fall, and premises liability, as well as coverage and bad faith matters.
An accomplished litigator and counselor, Mr. Bush has received the highest rating afforded by Martindale Hubbell of Preeminent/AV®, awarded for legal ability and ethical standards.
Mr. Bush began his legal career in 1978 in a Lexington law firm where he gained invaluable litigation training and experiences. After several years in Lexington, that firm merged with one of Kentucky’s largest law firm, Stites & Harbison, and he relocated to its Louisville office. In 1990, Mr. Bush entered into association with other attorneys in the formation of Ewen, Hillard & Bush, where he remained a founding partner until January 1999. Thereafter, under his leadership, he founded Bush Law Office, an insurance-fraud focused insurance defense law firm.
Mr. Bush is actively involved in various professional organizations. He is a long-standing member of the primary insurance defense organizations in Kentucky, including the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and the Kentucky Defense Counsel. He is also a member of the two most prominent insurance fraud organizations in Kentucky - the Kentucky Chapter of IASIU (International Association of Special Investigation Units) and NSPII (National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators). He has served as President of the NSPII Kentucky Chapter and for numerous years as the Kentucky representative to the National NSPII Board. Mr. Bush also served as the National President of NSPII in 2007-2008.
Mr. Bush is licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and is admitted before all state and federal courts in Kentucky including the United States District Courts of Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky. He is a member of the Louisville Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
Mr. Bush is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, receiving his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt Law School in 1978 and a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in 1975. In law school, he was a member of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law and served as its Research Editor.
Mr. Bush is a frequent lecturer at national seminars and conferences on topics concerning legal issues and trial practice, general insurance defense and SIU property, casualty and PIP matters.
In his community, Mr. Bush is actively involved in the 465-member Rotary Club of Louisville where he served as President from 2009-2010 and is currently a Director. Additionally, he is a Trustee of The dePaul School for children with learning differences.
