Sonya K. Daws is a partner in the Tallahassee office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Ms. Daws has focused her practice in the areas of commercial and residential real estate transactions, real estate disputes, title insurance claims, banking and finance, loan recovery, and general corporate and business law since 1985. With a long-standing involvement in real estate, she has represented individuals, public corporations, institutional investors, regional financial institutions, privately held and governmental entities involving a variety of business issues. Ms. Daws has extensive experience and is routinely involved in the disposition of real property assets obtained through the foreclosure process including short sales, REO transactions, loan restructures, and workouts. Her practice also includes commercial leases and closings, subdivision development and documentation including restrictive covenants and easements. Ms. Daws is an authorized title insurance underwriter for Chicago Title Insurance Company / Fidelity National Title Group, and Westcor Land Title Insurance Company
Prior to her joining QPWB, Ms. Daws was managing partner of Sonya Daws, P.A., as founder of her practice in Tallahassee, Fla., she maintained her practice focus in the areas of real estate and residential and commercial foreclosures, asset recovery, title insurance and title insurance claims, documentation of leases, collection matters, and probate administration. In the 1980s, Ms. Daws served as in-house general counsel for the Florida Division of Anchor Savings Bank FSB; a seven-billion dollar federally chartered savings bank with banking locations in four states including 17 branch offices. Ms. Daws’ legal representation included handling regulatory matters, and compliance and enforcement actions. She was responsible for all legal aspects in connection with the appropriate structure and documentation of lending transactions and loans secured by a wide variety of collateral.
Ms. Daws received her Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law in 1994 and a Bachelor of Science cum laude from Florida State University in 1974.
Ms. Daws is licensed to practice law in Florida and is a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar; she is also admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida.
Ms. Daws is the author of “Agreements for Deed” Chapter 5 in Florida Real Property Litigation, 5th Ed. (2009). A publication featured in Florida Bar’s Continuing Legal Education series.
Ms. Daws is active in various community and professional organizations, including serving as board member of the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Bend and as past chair of the Leon County Board of Adjustments and Appeals in Tallahassee. She is a graduate of Leadership Tallahassee Class 24.
