Ronald O. Armbrust is a partner in the Fort Lauderdale office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Mr. Armbrust has served as lead counsel in numerous lawsuits concerning complex technical, construction defect, product liability, first party, bad faith, commercial, and mass tort litigation. Relative to mass tort litigation, he has represented clients in matters involving factor concentrate/HIV infection, asbestosis, and silicosis.
In addition to a law degree, Mr. Armbrust obtained a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering and a master’s degree in civil/construction engineering. His engineering background has been especially helpful when defending design and construction defect claims and prosecuting complex technical subrogation cases.
Mr. Armbrust’s litigation experience has involved electrical generating facilities, oil refineries, and paper mills and a wide array of matters including catalytic crackers, gas transmission lines, cast iron drainage pipe, generators, steam turbines, reciprocating and rotary compressors, shut down devices and safety switches, oil storage tanks, steam boilers, water sensing devices, ash handling equipment, aluminum furnaces, gas and coal fired furnaces, refractories, valves, air bags, hydraulic systems, trash handling, and off-road heavy equipment.
Significant Representative Matters
Successfully defended a consortium of fire insurance carriers in a four-month trial to verdict in federal court where the insured was a power utility.
Successfully represented a big-ten university in a trial to verdict relative to a design and construction defect/structural collapse.
Successfully represented a manufacturer of scavenger trucks in a product liability/ personal injury action in a federal court trial to verdict.
Successfully represented a computer manufacturer in a lengthy AAA arbitration hearing in a commercial litigation case involving a breach of contract.
Successfully represented an insurance carrier in a $100 million plus first party/bad faith litigation where the insured was an oil refiner and the subject matter was the efficacy of a newly installed catalytic cracker.
Successfully represented an insurance company which issued a difference in conditions policy versus a boiler and machinery carrier where the insured was a national paper manufacturer relative to the defective construction/defective design of one of its paper mills.
Successfully represented an insurer for a national oil refinery in a product liability and negligence suit relative to an explosion and destruction of one of its oil refineries.
Successfully represented three product manufacturers in silicosis matters having all cases dismissed.
Mr. Armbrust is admitted to practice in Florida, Illinois, and the U.S. Virgin Islands; and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida; U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit; U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois; and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Armbrust received his Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois having received a Master of Science in civil engineering and a Bachelor of Science in aeronautical/astronautical engineering.
