Omar A. Lopez is an associate in the Fort Lauderdale office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. Mr. Lopez represents individuals and companies in civil and criminal litigation matters before state and federal courts. He focuses his practice in the areas of general liability defense, premises liability, automobile negligence, and wrongful death.
Prior to joining QPWB, Mr. Lopez was a solo practitioner with broad experience in litigation; he represented clients in all aspects of criminal defense including investigation of criminal filing decisions. He also handled all phases of divorce proceedings and mediation. In the area of matrimonial and family law, Mr. Lopez represented clients in dissolution of marriage (divorce) proceedings, through mediation, including post-judgment modifications and post-mediation process. He is also experienced in handling domestic and repeat violence matters.
Mr. Lopez is a former prosecutor with the Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s office assigned to the Career Criminal/Repeat Offender Court, where he prosecuted habitual violent offenders of crimes that included armed robberies and attempted second-degree murder.
Following law school, Mr. Lopez became an assistant public defender with the Orange County Office of the Public Defender in Orlando, Florida. He represented various criminal county court matters including DUI/DWI, and possession of controlled substances.
Mr. Lopez is admitted to practice in the state courts of Florida and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, he is a member of The Florida Bar.
Mr. Lopez received his Juris Doctor in 2005 from St. Thomas University School of Law, Miami, Florida. Mr. Lopez earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Florida in 2002.
Mr. Lopez is proficient in Spanish.
