Robert J. Kelleher is a partner in the Chicago office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. He serves as Chair of the Chicago office’s Professional Liability & Civil Litigation Practice Group. Mr. Kelleher focuses his practice in the areas of medical/dental malpractice, nursing home and long term care liability, healthcare liability, and product liability. He has extensive jury trial experience with over 20 years acting as first-chair lead attorney and has achieved jury verdicts in cases involving medical malpractice; automobile liability; wrongful death; premises liability; transportation and common carrier negligence; construction liability; and Federal Employee Liability Act (FELA). Representative clients include The University of Chicago Medical Center, The University of Chicago, Five Star Senior Living Communities; Harbor Chase Long Term Care; AIG; Intercare Insurance Company; The Cheesecake Factory; Chicago Public Schools; Liberty Mutual Insurance Company; Travelers Insurance Company; and Chubb Insurance.
Mr. Kelleher has earned the professional insurance designation of Associate in Risk Management (ARM). He provides professional risk management consulting services to small and mid-size health-care professional practices, small businesses, and non-profit organizations. His consulting practice is designed for hands-on evaluations in most areas of risk management including insurance coverage; employment policies and practices; employee safety issues; general public safety matters; and protection of property. The focus of this practice is to assist clients with minimizing risk in their business environment to allow them maximum growth and long term profit.
Prior to joining QPWB, Mr. Kelleher was a Senior Litigation Attorney for Metra (one of the largest commuter railroads in the USA) and was a lead attorney on behalf of the railroad for most litigation matters as well as managing and reviewing outside defense counsel. Because it is primarily a self insured entity, Mr. Kelleher had a unique opportunity to gain experience with in-house risk management, claims practice, and litigation. Mr. Kelleher began his legal career in 1990 when he joined a Chicago law firm specializing in medical malpractice, hospital liability, wrongful death, pharmaceutical, healthcare, and general negligence claims where he practiced for 20 years. There, he focused on the investigation and litigation of medical negligence matters. He advanced to senior litigation attorney; and during 15 years, had a broad variety of successes as lead negotiator and in the representation of clients in arbitration, mediation, and at trial.
Mr. Kelleher received his Juris Doctor cum laude from Northern Illinois College of Law, DeKalb, Illinois in 1990 and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa in 1987, majoring in journalism and mass communication. While in law school, he served as Associate Editor of the NIU Law Review.
Mr. Kelleher is licensed to practice law in Illinois and is admitted to the Illinois State Bar. He is a member of the Trial Bar of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. During his career, he has represented clients in virtually every venue in the State of Illinois and multiple states including Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Florida, Arizona, and Washington. His professional affiliations also include the Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, the DuPage County Bar Association, and Defense Research Institute (DRI).
Mr. Kelleher is involved in numerous charitable and service organizations. He is a peer counselor with the Lawyers Assistance Program; served with Immerman Angels, providing support for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers; and volunteered with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Chicago. Mr. Kelleher also volunteers as an assistant gymnastics coach at Glenbard West High School in Glenn Ellyn, Illinois.
