Alan P. Gustafson, Jr. is a partner in the Tampa office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. He focuses his practice primarily in the areas of commercial litigation with an emphasis on construction defect, insurance defense and insurance coverage disputes, and professional liability (architects and engineers). Mr. Gustafson represents public and private owners and construction industry participants in all forms of construction, design and governmental disputes, including defective construction claims, errors and omissions claims, impact, delay and acceleration claims, and building code disputes before state and federal courts and arbitration panels. Part of his practice also includes the representation of licensed professionals in administrative proceedings filed against them.
Since 2007, Mr. Gustafson has practiced with other national law firms but with a sustained focus on construction law and commercial litigation. He has represented general contractors, subcontractors and sureties as lead counsel and co-counsel in disputes regarding surety bonds, breaches of contract, construction liens and professional licensing requirements; and has provided counsel in general planning and evaluation of risk management practices. He has also practiced in the areas of general civil litigation, community association law, environmental law and product liability. Prior to private practice, Mr. Gustafson served as an assistant state attorney with the Tenth Judicial Circuit of Florida; among various duties, he served as lead counsel in over 20 jury trials and numerous bench trials in both misdemeanor and felony level criminal cases.
Mr. Gustafson received his Juris Doctor cum laude from Stetson University College of Law at Gulfport, Florida in 2007 and Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio in 2004 graduating with a major in English.
Mr. Gustafson is licensed to practice law in Florida and Ohio (inactive). He is admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. He is a member of the Florida Bar’s Construction Law Committee, and the Real Property Probate and Trust Section.
