Melinda Merced is a partner in the Orlando office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A.  Her practice focuses in the areas of insurance defense litigation, medical and professional malpractice claims; skilled nursing and assisted living facility claims; roadway construction claims; general and premises liability actions; and automobile, personal injury, and wrongful death claims.

Previously, Ms. Merced was an associate with the firm handling insurance defense litigation with a focus on high exposure personal injury matters. Prior to rejoining the firm, she worked in the Economic Crimes Unit for the Ninth Judicial Circuit, Orlando. As an assistant state attorney, she worked on complex cases involving schemes to defraud and exploit the elderly, bank and insurance fraud, workers’ compensation fraud, tax evasion, counterfeiting, identity theft, extortion, unlicensed medical practices, contracting without a license and unauthorized practice of law. Ms. Merced commenced private practice working with a plaintiff’s law firm handling contract law, family law, foreclosure defense, bankruptcy, criminal defense, homeowners’ association law, and personal injury cases.

Ms. Merced received her Juris Doctor magna cum laude from Florida A&M University College of Law in 2010 and a Bachelor of Arts from Warner Southern College, Lake Wales, Florida in 2005.  She received Book Awards in Constitutional Law, Torts, and Florida Practice II; and served as staff editor of the Law Review and Board Chair for the Advocacy Team.  Also while in law school, Ms. Merced completed two internships at the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida: serving at the Public Defender’s Office and under the Honorable Circuit Judge Stan Strickland.

Ms. Merced is licensed to practice law in Florida; she is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Ms. Merced is bilingual in both English and Spanish.
